You are only required to do a single check ride, but you can do as many check rides as you like as they provide a great opportunity for new learners to obtain additional rider training and riding advice. Check rides are used to review your riding skills and prepare you for your licence assessment. A check ride involves an on-road ride and a group debrief with your trainer afterwards. During your check ride your trainer will guide discussions which will include on-road tactics and strategies, as well as safe riding skills and behaviours.
There is no minimum waiting period after you have obtained your learner permit before you complete your check ride, but you will need to have successfully completed a check ride at least one month prior to the date of your motorcycle licence assessment.
Courses go ahead regardless of the weather
What You’ll Need
A current Victorian motorcycle learner permit or VicRoads learner permit receipt which you must bring with you on the day of your check ride.
You MUST wear appropriate clothing including a long sleeve top, long pants, and fully enclosed shoes (either boots or runners) in order to have full skin cover. If you have your own motorcycle protective gear you are encouraged to bring it with you to wear.
Wet weather gear should brought if the days forecast indicates rain.
Your own registered, LAMS approved motorcycle will help you feel more comfortable riding. If you don’t own a motorcycle, you can hire one for the check ride – please advise at time of booking.
What You’ll Learn
During the check ride participants will cover the following:
U-turns, curves and braking
Riding tactics and strategies
A pre on-road briefing
On-road coaching
A post-check ride debriefing and group discussion
